The video below shows why I like the miniKoi so much. Check out the size of the park I fly in. You can really wring the plane out without having to worry about structural failure of flutter. Nice.
My friend who was taking the video got in the way on a low and slow pass and I accidentally hit his arm and shoulder with the wing of the plane. Neither Ritchie nor the plane where hurt in any way. He was wearing a large winter jacket this was not intended and it is not my recommended flying practice. Thanks go to Ritchie for taking the video. Ritchie also works on the production with me.I was testing out different props on a the new gearbox ratio for the miniKoi's $9 speed 400 rocket setup.
I timed the motor for the gearbox and broke it in. Those that come with the kits will be timed for you. This is a practice model that has had numerous repairs and is a couple of ounces overweight so you can imagine the performance of a fresh built model at 15 oz! There is no lack of power. The contoured profile fuse really helps the plane track thru pylon turns nicely. Notice how it even though it is a light it does not slow down in the turns.
Don't be misled by the speed of the model in this video! There was a bit of wind up high and I was blown off course when i went too high on the verticals. Hotliner like action from a fun fly!!
She slows down like a pussycat and can be propped for slow flight with better than 1:1 thrust to weight, or use a much smaller prop and go for endurance. With a more sedate prop selection you can fly your entire flight in the airspace of a double tennis court.The wing loading is very low and this plane flies beautifully right down to the stall with no tendency to tip stall. The controls stay responive and the stall break is gentle and recovery quick. There was a good bit of wind that day. This old prototype has also grown a little overweight at 17.5oz (up from 15oz over 300 flights and many high speed crashes) in the video but still kicks major butt!!!right click to download to your disk
